Vobella The Perfect Filler

Do you desire a fuller more delicious pout but are afraid of looking “filled” or “over-done?” Then Volbella by Juvederm is the injectable for you! Juvéderm Volbella XC, a filler made up of a stabilized form of hyaluronic acid, which is a sugar molecule that’s naturally occurring in your skin. The needle we used was longer than a typical injecting needle, allowing Genevieve, our lead RN to thread the filler through a quarter of my lip at a time.

This means less poking and prodding — ultimately less pain — and a more even distribution of the solution. As one of the longest-lasting injectables on the market, it can leave lips plump for up to 12 whole months. (Other lip fillers last about four to six months.)

Juvéderm Vollbella XC also uses a special cross-link technology known as Vycross to hold a combination of both high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid together in a cohesive gel, which remains intact after it’s injected into the skin. In non-plastic-surgeon speak, the mixture of high- and low-weight hyaluronic acid in the Vycross technology means it creates a more connected gel that can be molded, effectively lifting sunken skin sitting above it. Because it’s more connected, you also get the most natural-looking results and less swelling. These benefits make Juvéderm Volbella XC a great fit for filling laugh lines, too.

Micronutrient Testing at MetroMD

SpectraCell is a micronutrient blood test offered here at MetroMD. The purpose of this test is to determine any nutrient deficiencies one may have. Based on the results of this test our specialists can help guide your diet towards a direction that will ensure you are properly nourished.

Typically, this can be done by adjusting one’s diet alone. However, for people who have a hard time introducing or including nutrient heavy foods in their diet, there are different options. These options include vitamin therapy or the addition of supplements.

For vitamin therapy patients typically come in once a week or bi-weekly. An IV fusion enables patients to get proper nutrients directly to their bloodstream, our blends can be tailored to your needs. This means we can include more of the vitamins you are lacking!

If IVs are too time-consuming or you don’t like being poked supplements are the alternative option. Stone Natural Medicine is a great natural way to boost your vitamin intake. The variety of products offered are all naturally sourced from earth instead of being compounded in a pharmacy.

Regardless, it is important to have a good idea of what nutritional deficiency you may have if any. Typically patients perform SpectraCell tests annually or every 2-3 years. If you have any questions regarding this treatment or would like to set up your SpectraCell test you can give us a call at 323-285-5300.

Manual Cupping Therapy at MetroMD

Manual Cupping Therapy or Cupping Therapy is a practice that has been around for thousands of years. This ancient form of alternative medicine is still very common Today! According to historians, ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C.

Using a special form of cups a trained therapist places them over the area of treatment this creates a suction over the skin. After a few minutes of suction, the skin begins to tighten as there is a quick increase in blood flow to the region. This treatment is great for many purposes, including to help with muscle pain, reduce inflammation, or increase blood flow to a certain part of the body.

Cupping Therapy is also a very common form of deep-tissue massage. Typically the cups are made of glass or silicone. Although the silicone pumps are a more common form of cupping fire can be used as well. During this, a therapist will put a flammable substance such as alcohol and set it on fire. As the fire goes out, he puts the cup upside down on your skin.

As the air inside the cup cools, it creates a vacuum. This causes your skin to rise and redden as your blood vessels expand. The cup is generally left in place for up to 15 minutes. Depending on the area treated you might get 3-5 cups in your first session.

Afterward, you may get an antibiotic ointment and bandage to prevent infection. Your skin should look normal again within 10-14 days.

Cupping therapy is also great for getting rid of toxins from the body to promote healing and well being. We now can offer cupping therapy at MetroMD! If you would like to set up your first appointment or ask any questions you can give us a call at 323-285-5300!

Compression Recovery at MetroMD

Compression Recovery is a form of sports recovery treatment that activates blood flow and helps reduce stiffness/soreness in the legs and other parts of the body. It works by using compression like garments that are activated with air compression and pressure. The retraction and application of compression continuously helps to stimulate blood flow to the region. Compression recovery can be applied to many parts of the body; such as head/neck, back, and shoulders, but it’s typically used on the legs as they are the most common sore or stiff body part.’

Compression recovery is not new and has been used by sports trainers and athletes as a form of physical sports recovery. However, you do not need to be a professional athlete to get the same benefits. For working professionals or anyone who is heavy on their feet trying compression recovery can be a great way to release tension and pain built up in your legs.

This treatment is effective for removing stasis blood from the legs. Statis blood is known to cause RLS or restless leg syndrome along with pain, and inflammation in the legs. The compression boots help remove the stagnant blood while applying pressure to the built up lactic acid.

By breaking apart the lactic acid the compression recovery helps reduce soreness. Compression recovery is also very peaceful and meditative. We are proud to offer our own compression recovery boots here at MetroMD. This treatment can be done in as quick as 20 minutes! Call us today for more information 323-285-5300.

Cupping Therapy at MetroMD.

Cupping is a type of alternative therapy that originated in China. It involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. The suction facilitates healing with blood flow, as well as the flow of “qi” in the body. Qi is a Chinese word meaning life force.

Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This can relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It can also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. People use cupping to complement their care for a host of ailments and conditions.

Cupping has been used to treat a wide variety of conditions. It may be particularly effective at easing conditions that create muscle aches and pains. Since the cups can also be applied to major acupressure points, the practice is possibly effective at treating digestive issues, skin issues, and other conditions commonly treated with acupressure.

In 2012, the journal PLoS One published reviews of cupping therapy researchers found that cupping therapy may help in treatment of the following conditions, among others:

herpes zoster
facial paralysis
